This dataset shows all the individual boardings which have been made in West Yorkshire by English National Concessionary Travel Scheme holders. The ENCTS scheme is a mandatory bus concession for older people and provides free off-peak local bus travel to eligible older people.
Each file holds a week’s worth of boardings. Each line displays information about one boarding.
In each file the data owner has removed boardings whereby 9 or less boardings were completed on a single bus service within that week. This exercise removes approximately 250 boardings in each file.
The dataset includes five columns and a description of the data contained in each column is defined below:
Time Stamp: The timestamp identifies the time of the boarding and is aggregated into time bands of 10 minutes
Operator Name: Defines the name of the operator for each boarding (In some instances the operator name will be defined as Nowcard. This is the collective name used for some small operators)
Service Number: This column displays the operator service number. (In some instances the operator service number is different to the actual service number displayed on the bus. When this occurs the actual service number is included within the digits of the operator service number)
Boarding Point: Defines the operators’ fare stage number for the boarding point (The fare stage is a group of stops close together). This dataset does not provide information about the location of the fare stage number. All operators use different fare stage numbers.
Vehicle identifier: This column displays a vehicle identifier number (This number can be used to identify a vehicle). The vehicle identifier number is hashed on a daily basis.
