Every Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) in England has a statutory responsibility to publish and update a ‘pharmaceutical needs assessment’ or ‘PNA’, a statement of the need for pharmaceutical services for the population of its area. NHS England will use this PNA to review applications from pharmacies wanting to be approved to operate in the Leeds Health and Wellbeing Board area (join the pharmaceutical list). This is done under the NHS (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013, as amended.
Additionally, it can be used to inform commissioners, for instance, the Leeds City Council public health team, on the current provision of pharmaceutical services and where locally commissioned services could help meet local health priorities.
