Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) can be placed on single trees, groups of trees and even whole woodlands. If a tree has a TPO you must apply for permission from us before carrying out any work to the trees covered. Unauthorised work to a protected tree is a criminal offence.
A listed building is statutorily protected against unauthorised demolition, alteration and extension. It has special 'national' architectural or historic interest.
A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is a conservation designation denoting a protected area.
Monuments, structures or below ground archaeological sites that are identified as being of national significance are placed on a list or Schedule. If a monument is Scheduled , it means that permission is needed for any works to a monument including demolition, removing, repairing, tipping near to or altering in any way.
