This has been a great year for us at the Data Mill and the good news keeps coming. It was a big step forward to re-brand Leeds Data Mill to Data Mill North and great to see City of Bradford MDC publishing ever more datasets and producing some great visualisations. We then found out that we had been nominated for the ODI Publisher Award 2016. As you can imagine we’re pretty chuffed!

Up against a couple of heavyweights, DEFRA and ARGIS (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), this makes our inclusion even more special. Our ambition has always been to be the best website for open data and this nomination is a huge pat-on-the-back for all the individuals and organisations involved and shows that we’re heading in the right direction. From the beginning, our vision has been to build a community around the data rather than just focus on publishing the data itself. The true value of data is only realised when it is reused to provide new insight, analysis and innovation.

Regardless of the outcome of the awards we’ll be forever passionate about opening up new datasets, working with enthusiastic people and organisations and will continue to work towards Data Mill North being the best site for open data. Would be lovely to win though :)
